Matthew Hill is an Assistant Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Virginia based in Abingdon. Before joining the office in Abingdon, he was an Assistant Federal Public Defender in the Western District of Arkansas. Prior to that, he was a state public defender in New Hampshire. Before his time in New Hampshire, Mr. Hill was in private practice in Southeast Missouri, where he was routinely appointed under the Criminal Justice Act. Mr. Hill earned his J.D. from Ohio Northern University in 1996. He has been licensed to practice in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States District Courts in the Eastern District of Missouri, Arkansas, and Virginia. He is licensed to practice in Missouri, Arkansas, and New Hampshire. Mr. Hill has also represented clients in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia for charges related to January 6. Mr. Hill has successfully tried cases on everything from driving while intoxicated to murder.
